Hose ferrules: precision solutions for reliable fluid connections

Hose ferrules secure fluid connections in hydraulic systems, gas and welding technology, and water applications. We manufacture precision-fit ferrules from stainless steel, steel, aluminium, copper, brass and Inconel for series production. Our range covers internal diameters from 9 to 55 mm and accommodates custom specifications.

Since 1876, A.G. Thorwarth has stood for deep-drawn parts and hose ferrules made in Schmalkalden. Our long tradition in metal processing, established processes and certified quality management create trust from the first enquiry through to dependable series supply for demanding industrial projects in Germany and Europe.

Product information

For generations, Thorwarth has stood for high-quality hose ferrules in the low-pressure range. Our tooling range covers internal diameters from 9 mm to 55 mm, and our modular tooling system allows customer-specific details to be integrated easily and cost-effectively.

Our hose ferrules are used primarily in hydraulics, low-pressure applications, automotive systems, line connections in gas and welding technology, water hoses and ferrules for complete hose assemblies.

On our 23 multi-stage presses with press forces of up to 63 tonnes, we produce deep-drawn ferrules made of stainless steel, steel, Inconel, aluminium, copper and brass. The deep-drawing process covers ferrule lengths from 5 to 60 millimetres, inside diameters from 8 to 60 millimetres and material thicknesses from 0.3 to 1.5 millimetres.

Hose ferrules in use: applications & requirements

Hose ferrules are used wherever connections must be durable, robust and suitable for the medium involved. Typical applications range from technical lines to complete hose systems.

  • Hydraulic and low-pressure lines in industrial plants
  • Gas and welding technology with a defined clamping length
  • Water hoses in operation, workshops and plant engineering
  • Connection and transition solutions in automotive systems
  • KComplete line assemblies with coordinated ferrule variants

The design is based on the medium, pressure, temperature and mechanical load. Material, wall thickness and geometry are selected so so that hose ferrules perform reliably and consistently over the long term, even under the varying conditions of series production.

Hose ferrules: dimensions and materials

Dimensioning is based on the required clamping range and assembly process. Proven sizes and materials form the basis for repeatable series production.

  • Tooling range with IDs from 9–55 mm
  • Process window for deep-drawn parts: length 5–60 mm, inside diameter 8–60 mm, Mmaterial thickness 0,3–1,5 mm
  • Materials: stainless steel, steel, Inconel, aluminium, copper, brass

The result: hose ferrules that consistently meet dimensional requirements and application demands.

Processes & production: deep drawing in series

Production is based on deep drawing, a multi-stage sheet-metal forming process. Through careful planning, design and inspection, the process remains stable even for large quantities. A machine park with 23 multi-stage presses and press forces of up to 63 t provides reliable capacity.

Toolmaking for hose ferrules

Variants are developed in modular toolmaking, from single-stage tooling to progressive and transfer dies. Modifications, maintenance and repairs are planned so that production processes remain stable and reliable. Press tools for hose ferrules are matched to component geometry and material.

Hose ferrule quality: inspections & documentation

Quality is built into every step, from the material batch to packaging. The system is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001, and processes are aligned with ISO/TS 16949. Inspection plans, traceability and documented approvals support production ramp-up and ongoing production.

Hose ferrules across industries & applications

Requirements vary depending on the application. The following examples show typical fields and priorities at a glance.

Sanitary

Press sleeves for drinking-water and heating installations are produced to fit precisely with fittings, plumbing systems and shower hoses. The material selection is corrosion-resistant and matched to the application. The result is durable connections with repeatable dimensions.

Automotive

SHose ferrules secure connections in exhaust, gearbox, brake and power steering systems in the automotive sector. Suitable materials and documented processes support long-term use in the vehicle.

Non-automotive

Applications range from locking and measuring technology to burner sleeves and caps and lids in non-automotive projects. The design is adapted to the specific application.

Hose ferrule assembly: practical processing

Hose ferrules are typically assembled using a press or pliers, each matched to the hose type, the material and the required clamping range. Press tools for hose ferrules are designed so that crimping, edge profile and surface quality work together. A clean cut, the correct assembly sequence and the right clamping length are crucial for tightness.

Notes on selection

Before design begins, it is advisable to clarify the medium, pressure, temperature range, assembly method and required clamping length. This makes it possible to select hose ferrules made of stainless steel or aluminium with confidence and keep assembly times predictable.

FAQ: hose ferrules at a glance

The following answers summarise common questions and support selection and planning.

What are hose ferrules and what are they used for?

Hose ferrules permanently secure hose and line connections. They create a defined crimp zone, secure the hose end, and reinforce the transition. Typical applications include hydraulic and low-pressure lines, gas and welding technology, water hoses, and connection solutions in technical systems.

Which materials are used for hose ferrules?

Proven materials include stainless steel, steel, aluminium, copper, brass and Inconel. Hose ferrules made of stainless steel are suitable for corrosion-critical media, while hose ferrules made of aluminium offer the benefits of low weight and good formability.

What sizes and versions are available for hose ferrules?

The tooling range covers inside diameters from 9–55 mm. In addition, depth, edge profile and geometry can be adapted to the application. Process window for deep-drawn parts: 5–60 mm length, 8–60 mm inside diameter, 0.3–1.5 mm material thickness.

How does the assembly of a hose ferrule work?

Assembly is carried out with a hose ferrule press or hose ferrule pliers. The tool crimps the ferrule to the required clamping length and contour. Cleanly prepared hose ends, suitable ferrule dimensions and a coordinated assembly process are essential.
